Epoxy Flooring for garages
While often found in commercial garages and warehouses, epoxy flooring is an excellent option if you’re looking to protect high-traffic areas of your home. Epoxy is ultra resistant to regular wear and tear, making it an easy choice for homeowners concerned with durability and longevity. With nearly endless design possibilities, epoxy flooring can help you attain your desired aesthetic for your home in almost any room, and it can even increase your home value.

How Long Does Epoxy Flooring Last?

Epoxy floors can last for a decade or more in residential spaces, depending on a few factors:
  • Application thickness. This will vary depending on the quality of the original floor and the type of flooring you are coating, but typically a thicker coat of epoxy will last longer.
  • Regular maintenance. For home use, regular mopping and quickly wiping away spills can seriously help prolong the lifespan of epoxy floors.
  • Foot traffic. In a commercial setting, epoxy floors will receive much more foot traffic which can break down the coating over time. For home use, you won’t have to worry as much about the effects of foot traffic.
  • Quality of the epoxy used. There are many epoxy brands and types to consider depending on the design, type of flooring being coated, and more. Our epoxy coatings selection is a great place to start to learn which type of epoxy may be best for your project.

How Long Does it Take to Add Epoxy Flooring to a Garage?

In general, epoxy flooring can be applied in a garage in one to two days depending on the size of the area and any additional preparation the original flooring may need outside of vacuuming, degreasing, and etching. Dry time is a factor as well, of course. Epoxy coating will usually dry within an hour, but depending on the temperature and humidity that time may vary. While the coating may be dry in that short amount of time, it is best not to walk on freshly applied epoxy for at least 24 hours and to avoid driving on the new floor coating for at least two days. All in all, your new epoxy flooring for your garage should be driveable in three to four days.

How do you Clean Epoxy Flooring in a Garage?

The best tip we can provide for keeping your epoxy floors clean in your garage is to always wipe up spills as soon as you notice them. Many common products stored in garages, like paints and cleaners, can damage your epoxy coating if spilled and not cleaned promptly. Motor oil, gasoline, and other vehicle fluids contain chemicals that can be hazardous to epoxy floors as well, so we recommend keeping rags on hand in your garage to wipe up any rogue liquids. For general cleaning, we recommend sweeping up dirt and mopping your garage’s epoxy floors regularly to improve its appearance and its longevity.
