Concrete Overlay in Chattanooga, Huntsville & Nashville

Visit our concrete overlay showrooms in Huntsvillle, Chattanooga and Nashville. Concrete overlay is an excellent option if you have existing concrete and want to change the look of the surface. Whether you want to create a stamped concrete surface or add texture to a slick surface by using a broomed overlay, these products are effective tools to use without having to remove existing concrete. In many cases preparation and cleaning to the existing surface may be necessary to apply a concrete overlay. It is recommended that you use Butterfield Color’s T1000 bonding primer before applying any of these concrete overlay products to your surface. However, if extensive cracking and ground settling have damaged the existing surface, concrete overlay may not be a cost effective option over time.

Stamped Concrete Overlay

Stamped Concrete< Click image to enlarge
T100 Stampable Concrete Overlay is polymer modified product that can transform an existing concrete surface into a stamped texture of your choosing. This overlay material is available in gray or white and is used in conjunction with Uni-Mix Integral Color Packs to create a consistent colored and stamped concrete surface. The coverage rate for this product will vary depending on the depth at which it is applied. The recommended depth of 3/8” will yield 16 square feet per 55 pound bag of material. Similar to stamping new concrete, use an Antique Release or a Liquid Release and Liquid Antiquing to add an accent color to your grout lines and textures. After these processes have been completed and the overlay material has had time to cure, use an appropriate sealer for the location to seal and protect the color and surface. T1000 Fine concrete overlay is a polymer modified product that can be used in resurfacing or decorative concrete overlay applications. Similar to stampable overlay, this product is available in gray and white and can be combined with Uni-Mix Integral Color Packs to create a consistent color across the existing concrete surface. Application of this product is determined by the desired effect, but T1000 Fine overlay can be applied with a hopper gun for a spray texture or stencil, a gauge rake for proper depth, or a hand trowel. You can use a concrete broom with this product to add a light texture to the surface for slip resistance. Depending on the depth desired the square footage may vary, but at 1/8” this product yields 48 square feet per 55 pound bag. After the product has been applied to the surface and given time to cure, use an appropriate concrete sealer for the location to seal and protect the color and surface.

  • Can a decorative overlay be applied to all existing concrete surfaces?

Decorative overlays offer limitless possibilities for finishes, ranging from ultra-smooth to heavily textured or stamped. The variety of finishes depends on the overlay system and the tools used for application.
  • How durable and long-lasting is a concrete overlay? Will it wear well under heavy traffic?
When applied correctly and protected by a sealer or coating, a concrete overlay can last indefinitely, even under heavy foot traffic. For added protection in high-traffic areas, using floor wax or polish is recommended. Regular reapplication of the sealer or wax prevents wear patterns, especially in colored surfaces.
  • Can an overlay be polished, like standard concrete?
Certainly. Many overlay systems can be polished to achieve a smooth, high-gloss finish. These systems are particularly popular for individuals seeking polished concrete while needing to conceal imperfections in an existing slab.
